ChAd63-KH was developed by the University of York and the University of Edinburgh and is a replication defective simian adenovirus expressing a novel synthetic gene (KH) encoding two L. donovani proteins KMP-11 and HASPB. It was uniquely engineered to reflect repeat domain polymorphisms and arrangements identified from clinical isolates. The advancement of the clinical development of ChAd63-KH for the prevention of visceral leishmaniasis (VL) / post kala azar dermal leishmaniasis (PKDL) is the focus of the EDCTP-funded PREV_PKDL project.
