PfRipr5 is an asexual blood-stage malaria vaccine, jointly discovered by Ehime University and Sumitomo Pharma Co. Due to its limited polymorphism, PfRipr5 is an appealing vaccine candidate to prevent clinical manifestation of the malaria. In combination with a pre-erythrocytic-stage vaccine, it has the potential to prevent parasite infection and subsequent development of a blood-stage infection.
